Horizon Realty Group is recognized as one of Chicago’s premiere apartment leasing and property management companies. Over the past 25 years, we have continuously raised expectations by stressing exemplary customer service and constant improvements to our apartments.

Horizon Realty Group is a family-owned and operated property management company that understands the importance of providing a quality living environment and the care and attention to detail that is required by our tenants. As a result, our apartments typically include amenities and finishes that you will not find at other properties.

1980
Present
1984

Danny Michael starts the one-man operation in the basement of his first building at 1946 W. Lawrence Avenue that will one day become Horizon Realty Group.

1987

Establishes the management arm of Horizon Realty Group and moves office to location in Skokie, Illinois.

2001

Jeffrey Michael joins his father as Chief Operating Officer of Horizon Realty Group.

2001

Acquires Elmhurst Terrace, a courtyard community in Elmhurst, Illinois, the only suburban property in the Horizon portfolio.

2002

Acquires 4242 N. Sheridan Avenue and moves corporate office to this location.

2003

Acquires 5650 N. Sheridan Avenue - Sheridan Lake, a high-rise with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. Designed in 1960 by Lowenberg & Lowenberg, architects who are also responsible for the intriguing “Aqua Building” in downtown Chicago.

2004

Acquires 6401 N. Sheridan Avenue, Sheridan Lake Apartments, A two-tower high-rise in the heart of the Loyola Campus.

2007

Acquires 4600 N. Clarendon and invests $8 million into renovating the Buena Park property into a luxury high-rise.

2010

Acquires historic Sheridan Plaza at 4607 N. Sheridan Avenue. The Luxury Apartment Hotel was designed in 1919 by Walter W. Ahlschlagar. Horizon invests $12.5 million into renovating the neglected Uptown property to restore it to its former glory.

2011

Acquires 5050 N. Sheridan - Uptown Regency, a 170-unit vintage apartment building and invests $4 million into renovations to restore the luxurious lobby and units.

2012

As Horizon continues to grow, the corporate headquarters are brought back to where it began, 1946 W. Lawrence Avenue. 

2014

Horizon purchases the North Shore Retirement Hotel in Evanston, a staple in the area since the 1920s. Plans for a 20 million dollar renovation begin, updating the property into luxury retirement living and renaming it, The Merion.
